Roulette at the Owl Club

Information

In 1931, when open gambling became legal again in Nevada, the Owl Club, at Commercial Row and Lake Street, was the first licensed club. With its proximity to houses of prostitution, it was considered to be in the "rougher part of town."  The women in this staged photo could have been residents of brothels, or divorce seekers, or both.
